British Theme
The owners of the Squire’s Pub descend from four of the countries in the British Isles–England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Elizabeth, Lisa and Scott Downing Dawson’s ancestors gave land to the crown where No. 10 Downing Street, the home of Prime Ministers, stands today. Deirdre Collene Sweeney Dawson is of Irish ancestry. The Squire’s Pub, a British–American restaurant, opened for business in May, 1991 in Southern Pines.
Décor At the Squire’s Pub
Stained and etched glass, hanging mirrors, and dark woods make the Squire’s Pub feel warm and inviting. Authentic British Pub artifacts and antiques such as a 1719 map of Kent, photos of Trafalgar Square, and other places in London, Weymouth, Dorset; and other memorabilia add interest to your visit. Dart boards handing on the wall and darts, backgammon and cribbage are available from the barkeeper to add fun when you’re in the pub.
